The Koyal - Saturday, July 11 - PM

Let me tell you about the Koyal. Tejas and I have been given amazing accomodations at my Kaka's (Uncle's) home on the second floor - complete with balcony, air conditioning, Internet, etc. My Uncle and his family have been living in this house (the infamous neighborhood of Lalita Park) for almost 35 years now. A few nights back we were all going through very old pictures of the family, including pictures of my Mom and Dad when they first met, my Dad on his way to his wedding, etc. There are several pictures of my Mom and Aunties of mine on the same road and same rooms that we still walk and sit in at this house - it's really awesome.

Perfect.

One of my favorite pictures - Mom with two of my Kakis. This is on the same street my Kaka still lives...

Anyways, we spend a fair amount of time at the house given that it's disgustingly hot and humid outside and it's the weekend so we're hanging with family, etc. Tejas and I usually get up around 7:30AM due to jet-lag and take our daily afternoon nap around 2PM or 3PM (a tradition that Western cultures should learn how to implement - I feel it makes life a lot better). The reason why I am writing this post right now and not napping is because of the Koyal.

The Koyal is the most annoying bird I've ever known. It has the loudest, most glaring shriek - namely because it starts its call around 5:30AM, continues throughout the day, and happens to like the tree which is right outside our balcony door. It's quite hard to explain the three-tone damage which this crow-looking bird causes - Tejas explained it as a "dolphin getting violated". Pretty much on point.

That's all I have. We're going to set out in a few minutes into town to buy some cheap electronics, gifts for the kids' birthday party which is this evening, and see some more of the loud, bustling metropolis which is Ahmedabad. Koyal says goodbye.
